Miles & miles to Kentucky. Miles to talk & listen uninterrupted (finally);
miles to sing & smile through, reading aloud the first 32 pages of Travels with Charley.
There becomes a greater purpose than just heading south for a friend's wedding.
Stienbeck is on to something when he writes "we do not take a trip, a trip takes us."
When we know we will be out on the road for hours, we plan on having time for silence, we splurge on caffeinated beverages, we see the sights in a different light. There is road ahead for us to travel & the journey is very nearly more exciting than the end location.
I am glad to make this memory; to have it become part of this friendship she & I share.
There is much to rejoice in - much to contemplate - much to pray through.
We have been given a gift.
